Description:

1952 MG TD motor car Chassis #1527915046, and title #777294050823024

Provenance: Estate of Robert R. Blackburn, Jr., High Point, North Carolina, an appliance store owner, former president of the Jaycees, a Mason, and former President of the High Point Shriner Club. The car was purchased in Southern Pines, North Carolina in 1969. Following its restoration, the TD was often found in the High Point Thanksgiving Day Parades and was driven to and around the North Carolina Piedmont, Blue Ridge Mountains, and New England, where it became a member of the New England MG TD club. The TD was inherited by the current owner in 2006 and was shown in the 2013 British Car Show in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Other Notes: The MG "T" type series was introduced in 1936 with the model MG-TA "Midget". This turned out to be a highly popular small sports car that quickly developed a world-wide following because it was reasonably priced and inexpensive to run. Over the next twenty years, continuous model improvements brought about sub-types TB, TC, and TD. The last model of this nimble sports car was sold as the TF and production ended in 1955.

The MG TD became a British export success story because it brought affordable, top-down, enjoyable motoring to the United States. It epitomized youthful motoring that was wholeheartedly taken up by many of the veterans who had experienced British life during the war. It was the most popular of all MG-T series model cars and about 30,000 were built between 1950 and 1953. Of these, an astounding 23,488 found happy owners in America.

The original oval valve clearance tag is still attached to the block.

Bench seat in excellent condition without tears. Black carpet, possibly a replacement item. Original steering wheel covered in leather. Some wooden backing to trim pieces in lower door area show minor delamination. Door cards and pockets good. Dash panel would benefit from a polish. All instruments work, including the dynamo-driven rev-counter, and have undamaged, clearly visible dials. Underdash panel temporarily attached with screws and tape.

Engine bay: Two original horns. Cast inlet manifold with MG badging. Dipstick with MG badging. Ignition key will not always make contact. Engine starts instantly and runs well. Clutch serviceable. Intermittent fuel pump failure (correct part new Lucas pump available). Brakes need bleeding. Fly-off handbrake works. Bulkhead mounted toolbox retains all of its original grey felt lining and the retains most of the original tools, amongst them are a small hydraulic jack and the original Dunlop tire iron.
