Alfred Hutty (South Carolina, 1877-1954)

Provenance: Estate of Norine Rouse, Florida.

Other Notes: Norine Rouse was a world-renowned turtle expert, marine conservationist, environmentalist and scuba instructor. She taught Grumman divers, rescue professionals, high school and college students, locals, and national and international visitors including King Hussein of Jordan. She also trained other diving instructors at the Norine Rouse Scuba Club of the Palm Beaches.

She was originally from Savannah, Georgia where she met and married Robert Green Rouse, a Navy Lt. Commander at the local air base. She herself was a member of the CAP was a LINK trainer operator.

Later, when they were living in Robert Rouse's hometown of New York, she saw the Hutty etching on the wall of the home of his mother, Anita Rouse, and admired it because the trees with the Spanish moss reminded her of home. Anita Rouse gave her the etching.

Anita Rouse, longtime resident of Woodstock, New York, was involved with the artists' colony there along with Alfred Hutty, from whom she received the etching.
