Alice Scott California (1866-1963) YIPPEE KI-AY watercolor and gouache, framed, signed & dated: lower right, Alice Scott, 51 sight size: H5 1/2" W3 1/2" *Artist biography: Born in San Francisco on Sept. 3, 1866, Alice Scott was the daughter of Irving M. Scott, owner of the Union Iron Works and an art collector and patron. Alice was raised in an artistic atmosphere, the family mansion on Rincon Hill being the scene of many plush affairs where such notables as President McKinley and George Inness were entertained. She was a pupil of William Keith for many years. Portraits by Keith of Alice and her father hang in the Corcoran Gallery of Art. She wed physician Reginald Knight Smith in 1899 and continued to live in San Francisco at 2600 Jackson Street until her demise on March 27, 1963.
