American model 1840 saber circa 1840-60 heavy cavalry saber, called Old Wrist Breaker, with single-edged blade, guard/knuckle bow with wire-wrapped grip, steel scabbard intact with two carrying rings and drag; marked: Solingen on recasso. (Overall wear and rust, wire and leather hilt deteriorating) overall L43 1/2" *Note: This sword was imported during the Civil War and could have been purchased by the North or the South. It is marked with a Solingen, Prussia mark. Many of their swords were imported during the Civil War.
