American theorem painted basket of flowers circa 1830 worked scene depicting flowers with reeded urn centerpiece, within associated grain-painted frame. (Good overall condition, with some discoloration) overall H15" W18 1/4" *Provenance: From the Estate of Frank Horton, Founder of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts. *Note: Brought to the United States from England in the late 1700's, theorem is a method of painting on velvet using oil paint and a series of accurately cut stencils. Fine details are added using a brush.
