Description:

Apulian red-figured bell krater circa 4th century BC, probably Southern Italian finely painted double-sided pictorial vessel on pedestal and flanked by shaped handles, scene depicting standing young man leaning against column and holding torch to illuminate a seated lady hold staff and gazing into mirror; verso depicting two standing male figures, one holding weapon, other offering plate; each scene framed within stylized leaf band and lower Greek-key band. H10 1/2" W11 1/4"

Provenance : Acquired inheritance from the present owner's grandfather Clarence von Rosen. Herr. Von Rosen most likely inherited the krater around 1900 from his brother Eric who was an explorer.

    Condition:
  • The side with partially nude figures has been restored. It appear that there are repaired cracks and breaks, most of which to not effect the figures.
