Book: Rare atlas by Robert Mills circa 1825 Mills, Robert. ATLAS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. Baltimore: John. D. Troy, 1825.

Provenance : From the library of August Kohn. August Kohn (1868-1930), Columbia, South Carolina journalist and businessman, assembled one of the finest private libraries of South Caroliniana in the country. He was an avid collector of books, pamphlets and maps related to his beloved native state. A writer of ability, he wrote for the Charleston News and Courier after graduating cum laude from South Carolina College in 1889. He also wrote pamphlets about the towns of Orangeburg and Columbia and, in 1903, published a significant work titled THE COTTON MILLS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

    Condition:
  • Lacks maps of Abbeville and Barnwell Districts, as well as portions of Charleston and Union Districts.

    Atlas has been rebound. Most all of the maps have tears at creases, mended creases, few have been mounted to newer paper. Half of the last map is missing.
