Provenance: Descended in the Rutledge-Rose Family of Charleston, South Carolina, probably belonging to James Rose (1800-1869) a prominent Charleston planter, banker, and congressman who married Julia Rutledge (1801-1873), daughter of John Rutledge Jr. (1766-1819).
