Other Notes: John Salter, The Strand, London worked 1802-1835.

This weapon looks like a military musket at first glance, due to the use of a military lock with the crowned GR. The reinforced cock indicates manufacture after 1808, when the gooseneck cock went out of use. The stock is of the type used on sporting arms, with no buttplate and nosecap. The barrel has a bayonet stud and an India pattern bayonet, modified for the Hanoverian spring catch associated with it. The touch hole has been bushed; there is a 1/32" or so gap between the pan and the barrel, which implies the lock is not original to the gun. The implication is that at some time in the past someone added a military lock and bayonet to a sporting gun.
