Nicholls, 1880-81 H40" W28 1/2" *Provenance: From a private collection, Armonk, New York, 1996-2006. *Artist biography: Born in Lockport, New York, Burr Nicholls became a noted Eastern landscape, figure and genre painter in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He studied painting in Buffalo before traveling to Paris to study with Charles Carolus-Duran. In France, he also painted at the artist colony in Pont Aven with Frank Penfold, also a Buffalo native.
