Carte Particuliere de la Caroline map of South Carolina by Sanson Sanson, Nicolas. Amsterdam: Pierre Mortier, circa 1696. Handcolored, matted and framed.

Provenance: North Carolina private collection.

Literature: Cumming, William P. THE SOUTHEAST IN EARLY MAPS. Chapel Hill: The University of North Carolina Press, 1998, map number 121.

Other Notes: Similiar to the Sanson map (lot 613). This map gives a more detailed description of the coastline from the South Edisto River to the Santee River and provides the names and locations of the plantations around Charleston. (Cumming 188).

    Condition:
  • Hinged at top to backing; tears along edges; slight creases in lower left corner; some foxing at lower right corner; toning to paper and matte burn. Otherwise in good condition.
