Cased pair E. J. Churchill 'XXV Premier' sporting guns, two extra pairs barrels manufactured in 1956
Smith top-lever operated, spring-opening sidelock actions with pinless lock plates and full coverage scroll engraving. 100% color hardening (renewed) and re-blacked furniture. Hold-open top-levers. Numbered '1' and '2'. Number '1' with 15 1/4" straight-hand, figured walnut stock (possibly a replacement) with drop-points, checkered hand and butt. Gold oval engraved 'J.M.B'. Number '2' gun with 15 1/4" straight-hand, figured walnut stock with drop points, refreshed checkering to hand, checkered butt and gold oval engraved 'J.M.B'. Both guns with beaver-tail forends, refreshed checkering and insert repairs around forend irons. Anson pushrod catches. Original 25" barrels fitted to both guns inlaid with gold '1' and '2' respectively and 'XXV'. Raised, matted, Churchill ribs, matched at 1/4 choke in each barrel. 2 3/4" chambers. Extra pair of barrels supplied by maker from new for each gun. Each with inlaid gold numbering and 'XXV', raised, matted Churchill rib. Extra barrels for #1gun choked skeet/skeet . Extra barrels for #2 gun choked full/full at 30 points (#2D). 2 3/4" chambers. Guns are cased in their original leather double motor case and barrels are supplied in their original leather motor case, with fittings for one gun and two sets of barrels. Both cases with vacant brass name plates.
Makers have kindly confirmed that guns and extra barrels were made in 1956 with consecutive serial numbers: SN 7395, 7395a, 7396, 7396b. **Subject to State & Federal Firearms Laws**

Provenance: Unusual pair of guns made for Mr. Joseph M. Bryan, Esq. of Greensboro, NC. Philanthropist and former CEO of Jefferson Standard, and a personal friend of Robert Churchill (They are pictured together in in Don Master's book THE HOUSE OF CHURCHILL).

Literature: The guns come with a copy of the original ledger page from Churchill, with specifications, an article about Mr. Joseph M. Bryan, and an article about Robert Churchill and the XXV guns.

    Condition:
  • All bbl sets are excellent as refinished with no physical blemishes. Bores are bright and shiny. Stocks show all of professionally restored finish with minor blemishes under the finish. Checkering has been recut. The actions show most of quality re-polish and re-case color with some minor pitting on the outside of the breech face of Gun 1. Top levers, safeties, and trigger guards show all of their restored blue finish. The forend of Gun 2 shows wood repairs around ejectors and on right side of forend iron. Small repaired crack approx. 1" long in bottom center of same forend.
