Cased W. W. Greener high grade 12-bore boxlock SxS sporting gun circa 1883
26" barrels with solid rib inscribed: 'W.W. GREENER 68 HAYMARKET LONDON WINNER AT THE LONDON GUN TRIALS 1875, 1877, 1878 & 1879'. Rib extension marked: 'PATENT TREBLE WEDGEFAST NO 3084'. 2 1/2" chambers, sleeved barrels, brass bead front sight. 3 tons per square inch proof 'W.W. GREENER' engraved on each side of action. Greener patent sliding button manual safety on left side of stock. Double triggers. Extractors. Checkered straight English walnut stock with checkered horn buttplate. Splinter forend with finger Anson and Deeley release. Profuse fine floral and tight scroll engraving on action, triggerguard and forend mounts. Matching engraving at barrel breeches. Modern brown leather trunk case, lined in green felt, with 'W.W. GREENER' trade label in gold embossed leather. Length of pull 14 1/2". SN 30149.

Other Notes: WILLIAM WELLINGTON GREENER was the second of four sons born to William Greener, Gunmaker (1806-1869). In 1864 W.W. Greener started to manufacture an under-lever, pin-fire, half-cocking breechloader. By 1890 he claimed that his factory which fronted on St. Mary's Row and had spread along Loveday Street to Bath Street was the largest in Britain and by 1923 the firm of W.W. Greener, Ltd. was to claim that the factory was the largest sporting gun factory in the world. W.W. Greener died at the age of 87 in 1923 and the business continued with his sons, Harry & Charles E.
