Charleston slave tag dated 1839 diamond-shaped clipped corner design tax badge marked: Charleston, 190, Porter, 1839. (Good well-worn condition with crisp impression) H2 1/8" W2 1/4" Wt 5.7g Thickness .67mm *Provenance: Found at the site of the Springfield Plantation at Pine Bluff, SC. Badge recovered by Ron Coleman of Moncks Corner, SC July 1st, 2004 at 3 pm. Badge was examined by Curator of natural history of the Museum of Charleston and determined to be authentic.
