Chinese Export bound watercolor painting 19th century
fourteen leaves depicting birds, flowers, and junk ships in painted and fabric-bound volumes; together with folio numeris pressed botanical specimens.
folio sizes: H7 1/4" W10 1/4" and H14" W9 3/4" (3pcs)

Provenance: Descended in the Rutledge-Rose Family of Charleston, South Carolina.

  • Paintings retain vibrant colors. Rice paper is fragile and some pages have frayed or marred edges and small tears. Some paintings have come loose from their taped mounts within the folio. Junk ship and butterfly paintings with a few worm holes. Some minor foxing on a few pages. Botanical specimens in good condition. Folios scuffed, peeling, and worn.
