Description:

Chinese Export Pronk Dame au Parasol ormolu-mounted plate circa 1780, for the French market, with well-known painted scene in the Imari palette bound in ormolu reed band; with fitted case of a later date.

Provenance: North Carolina collection.

Other Notes: The 'La Dame au Parasol' pattern, one of four designs commissioned by the V.O.C. from the Dutch artist Cornelis Pronk, who was sent out to Canton in 1736 and painted services shipped to the Netherlands in 1737 and 38. Pronk's watercolor can be seem in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

    Condition:
  • Wear and rubbing to gilding, oxidation to ormolu, small porcelain inclusion at inner border, otherwise in good original condition.
