Description:

Classical chinoiserie-decorated and painted fire screen circa 1840, shaped papier-mache adjustable panel with chinoiserie-decorated scene on round pole extending from baluster-turned pedestal resting on tripartite base with scroll feet.

Provenance: Property of a Southern gentleman's private collection, Charleston, South Carolina.

Other Notes: Painted decoration of the stand closely resembles Baltimore Classical painted furniture designs of the early 19th century.

    Condition:
  • Missing finial, losses to stenciling on base, very good condition overall with other imperfections consistent with age.
