David R. Williams, South Carolina land grant (1776-1830) to William Robertson and William Hamilton, 140 acres of surveyed land, dated December 8th, 1815. (Good condition, minor stains and tears) H13 1/2" W8 1/2" *Biography: David Rogerson Williams was born in Robbins Neck, SC, on March 8, 1776. He studied law at Rhode Island College, now Brown University in Providence, RI and was admitted to the bar in 1767. He was the editor of the City Gazette and Weekly Carolina Gazette of Charleston from 1801-1803. He was a Brigadier General in the U.S. Army from July 9, 1813 to April 6, 1814 when he resigned; he was elected Governor of SC from 1814-1816. He was a member of the State Senate from 1824 until he was accidentally killed November 17, 1830, while superintending the construction of a bridge over Lynch's Creek, Witherspoon's Ferry, on the road to Georgetown, SC and was interred on his plantation near Society Hill in Darlington County.
