Edith deMay Smith South Carolina (d. 1984) CHURCH STREET, CHARLESTON watercolor, framed, signed: lower left sight size: H8 1/4" W6 1/4" *Artist biography: Edith deMay Smith graduated from the University of Nebraska. She taught school in Rising City, Nebraska in 1929 and came to Charleston to teach art at Ashley Hall in 1943, a position she held for 40 years. She studied at the Art Students League in New York and with Gordon Grant, Doug Kingman and Gerald Brommer. She was a member of the Charleston Artist Guild, South Carolina Watercolor Society, Miniature Art Society of New Jersey and the Miniature Art Society of Florida. Smith died August 1, 1984.
