Description:

Federal inlaid cherry bowfront chest of drawers, possibly Pennsylvania or Maryland circa 1815
D-shaped top with vine inlay on edge, above conforming case fitted with four graduated drawers, resting on bracket feet.
H34" W42 3/8" D23"

Provenance: Descended through the estate of Dora Gray, a well-known Columbia, South Carolina decorator from the 1930s to the late 1950s. Miss Gray 's home and shop was located at 1316 Gervais Street, on property now occupied by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

    Condition:
  • Secondary woods are white pine and poplar; feet are probably replacements; brass hardware is period and probably original, one drawer lock missing; veneer patch to lower drawer facing and small scratches to top.
