Other Notes: In the original fitted leather case, a one of a kind very large diamond brooch designed by Chaumet, Paris in 1914 for Mrs. Katherine Mortenson Carr (1890-1935) and worn on the occasion of her being presented to the Court of St. James. Mrs. Carr, the daughter of lumber magnate Mr. Jacob Mortenson and his wife, wed George Russell Carr in 1913. Mr. Carr became the C.E.O. of the Dearborn Chemical Co. In 1934, Mrs. Carr and her daughter Katherine Carr were invited to London to be admitted to Court and Mrs. Carr wore this brooch while they were presented to the Queen of England. A British newspaper, the Daily Express featured a photograph of her daughter while she prepared to go to the palace. Unfortunately, Mrs. Carr died of an illness a year after her presentation in London.

Chaumet is a renowned Parisian jewelry company that was established 1780. Originally founded by the apprentice to Marie-Antoinette's jeweler, the company also served as jeweler for Napoleon before his exile. Famous for their tiaras, Chaumet is an exemplary jewel house known for its exquisite jewelry.

    Condition:
  • Good condition. Approximately 25.0 to 28.0ctw (2.5-22 point) European and old mine cut diamonds. Hallmarks have not been located.
