Other Notes: Frederick Carder was a designer, painter and sculptor who lived in Corning, New York. He was born in Wordsley, England and studied at the Royal College of Art. He was a member of the Architectural League of America and the American Federation of Arts. He exhibited at the American Ceramics Society in 1934. He was the distinguished founder of the Steuben Glass Works and became Director of the Corning Glass Works in Corning, New York. He is one of the most talented men in history of glassmaking and a rare and important American artist. His methods and techniques were imitated, but never duplicated. Carder is listed in WHO'S WHO IN AMERICAN ART and THE GLASS OF FEDERICK CARDER: THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE FAMED STEUBEN TECHNICIAN AND DESIGNER, INCLUDING ALL HIS ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE WORLD OF GLASSMAKING by Paul V. Gardner.
