Description:

Helen Keller typed letter, signed Dear Mrs. Rogers,

Your letter touched me with a sweet warmth like your expressive hand. It was an exquisite compliment to have you say my book was worth reading slowly, but oh, now I blushed at my shortcomings in wording deeply felt thoughts when you wrote on that what flows through us is the Eternal life-essence, and what we see is but the outward reflection of the law! I can only hope the book gave you a happy sense of the powers latent in me waiting until they are released in beauty of speech and creative activity which truly reflect Heaven.

I shall love to see you again when you return to New York and to absorb rays from your faith. Alas! too often it is the soul-shaking, earth-rendering war I think of which sweeps with an orcan of flame and flood through the sky, down into the seas over millions of homes, but when I recall personalities like yours, I cling fast to the dear sanctuary they give my mind. Please let me know when you are back, and what day you wish to see Miss Thomson and me. Perhaps you may feel inclined to come out and lunch with us in our new home. That would be a Shinto blessing left upon Arcan Ridge.

Nothing would make me prouder than to have you show me the letters you so tenderly treasure from Mark Twain. Certainly he is never far from us, and I am sure he is among the noble spirits animating courage and idealism to resist the hideous darkness which menaces the world today.

With affectionate greetings, in which Miss Thomson joins,
I am,
Sincerely your friend
Helen Keller
