Hoch, Hannah German (1889-1979) LANDSCAPE oil on canvas board signed & dated: lower left, 1944 H11 1/2" W15 1/2" *Artist biography: Hoch, a German expressionist who became one of the founders of the Dada movement, was a pioneer in photocollages and frequently experimented with linocuts. Hoch was a member of the Novembergruppe, and a member in the Dada movement from 1917 to 1921. She was forced into exile during the rise of the Nazis. As a female artist, Hoch was less conspicuous, but she was in danger due to her lesbian relationship with the Dutch avant-garde poet Til Brugman. Hoch works can be found in many major collections.
