Description:

Impressive gilt-bronze Roman Centurian girandole set mid 19th century, possibly Philadelphia, with central five-light girandole featuring Roman Centurion model standing below acanthus urn issuing five scrolling-leaf candlearms supporting vertical leaf-rimmed candleholders, resting on double-stepped marble base and flanked by matching three-light girandoles; retaining original gilded surfaces and original 120 prisms.

Provenance: Property of a Southern gentleman's private collection, Charleston, South Carolina.

    Condition:
  • Gilt-bronze in very good original condition with nice color, few spots of oxidation and rubbing.
    Prisms: are period and possibly original, 3 are missing, many with wax residue, many with varying degrees of nicks and chips.
    Central five-light girandole: top bobeche slightly crooked, leftmost bobeche slightly crooked, rightmost bobeche slightly loose on arm, these crooked bobeches have wax residue.
    One three-light girandole with slightly loose acanthus stem.
