Indian school (mid 20th century) A CASHMIRAN'S IDEA OF A BOMBAY PALACE watercolor and gouache, framed, unsigned sight size: H14 1/2" W23" *Provenance: Label on verso reads; McLean Marshall, sculptor of Rome, Georgia was stationed in India during the final years of World War II. He flew "The Hump" to China and was in the Office of Strategic Services. Mac purchased several paintings circa 1944-45, and on his return home presented this one to Claremont Lee of Savannah and Sea Island, Georgia. The artist of this painting in unknown. Late, it was discovered that some of the paintings Mac Marshall had purchased from a Hindu artist, Jamini Roy had become valuable and the artist had become famous in India. His address was 1/2B Ananda, Chatterjee, India. The above address was received from Dr. Lewis Lipps of Rome, Georgia in April 1977 after Marshall's death. She thought this picture did not look like a Jimini Roy painting.
