Other Notes: Former owner has oral history that states: Mr. David Maynard of James Purdey & Sons, Ltd. was kind enough to research this gun and reports that SN 8248 is a 12-bore Purdey breech loading hammergun, the No. 1 gun of a pair completed in 1870 for Captain H.F.G. Coleman.

Well used and has pitting. Trigger guard rusted. Heavily polished and refurbished stock but appears original. Bright barrels and repolished. Left barrel with a slight dent 6-inches from the muzzle. Weight is 6 lbs 10 oz. Serial number visible on forearm and barrel flats. Pitting has distorted the numbers on the trigger guard strap, with a 2 and 4 still visible. Left barrel thickness .0020-.0026. Right barrel thickness .0020-.0025 9" down from muzzle.
