Japanese Fukagawa porcelain charger, Koransha Company circa 1875-95 elaborately painted in gilt, iron red, shades of green, and light blue enamels, upper part with exotic nature scene with monkeys and birds, lower part with brocade banner, sword, flowering bushes with fence; marked on verso in red Fukagawa, and red orchid of Koransha Company. (Good condition) Dia.26 1/2" *Note: Fukagawa Eizaemon, Tezuka Kinosuke, Fukaumi Suminosuke and Tsuji Katsuzo founded the Koransha company in 1875, the latter three eventually parting company in 1879 to found the Seiji Kaisha. From 1875 to 1879 they maintained their own workshops and worked in their individual styles. The company participated in the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, each of the founders appearing under his own name in the catalogue. Fukagawa Eizaemon obtained a prize as attested by a certificate of award now kept in the Koransha company archive.
