Other Notes: British artist Julian Trevelyan, world renowned for his Surrealist etchings, received a degree in English Literature at Trinity College, Cambridge before studying at Atelier Dix-Sept engraving school in Paris. In 1935, Trevelyan set up an engraving studio on Durham Wharf in Hammersmith, where he remained throughout the rest of his career. He established his reputation as a leading Surrealist artist when he exhibited in the 1936 International Exhibition of Surrealism, which was held at the New Burlington Galleries in London and featured artists such as André Breton, Salvador Dalí, and Man Ray. After gaining recognition as a Surrealist during the 1930s, Trevelyan began specializing in both rural and industrial landscapes. Trevelyan taught art history and etching at the Chelsea School of Art and went on to become the Head of the Etching Department at the Royal College of Art in London, where he was also appointed Royal Academician. Trevelyan's work has been exhibited at the Bloomsbury Gallery, Messum's and the New Burlington Galleries in London.
