Keith, Dora Wheeler New York (1856-1940) SELF PORTRAIT-DORA WHEELER oil on board, framed signed, dated & titled: lower right, DW by DW, 1874 H14" W12" *Artist biography: Dora Wheeler was one of William Merrit Chases' first students after returning from Europe. Chase painted a large portrait of Miss Dora Wheeler which now hangs at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Dora was the daughter of Candace Wheeler -- the famed American female textile and interior design who worked with Tiffany & Co. Dora and her mother were responsible for the library ceiling mural of the Women's Building at the 1893 Exposition.
