*Note: Gene Kloss was born in California and attended the University of California at Berkeley, California School of Fine Arts, San Francisco and the College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland. She is known as one of the foremost printmakers in American art and was elected to full membership in the National Academy of Design in 1972. She inked and printed all of her own etchings working on a hand press built to her specifications. Twenty years after a honeymoon trip to Taos she and her husband built a house on their original campsite and her work centered on the New Mexico landscape and Pueblo Indians. Her etchings as well as oil and watercolor paintings display a sensitive use of color. Her work is found in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Carnegie Institute, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, and the San Francisco Art Museum among others.
