After the war, he returned to England where he became involved with politics and eventually served as governor-general of India from 1813 until 1823. He also added the title The Earl of Moira in 1793. In 1805, he was sent to Edinburgh, Scotland as commander in chief of the army there.

Lord Adam Gordon's service in the British army began in 1741 and he was actively involved during the Seven Years' War but did not participate in the war in America. In 1789, he was sent to Scotland as commander in chief of the army there with the rank of general.

Daniel O'Meara entered the British army in March 1776 and was promoted to lieutenant in the 20th Regiment of Foot in 1777, after the regiment arrived in America. The British army was defeated at Saratoga in September 1777 and the entire army surrendered and the soldiers were eventually sent back to England. O'Meara remained in service, advanced through the ranks, and in 1810 was sent to Jamaica with the rank of major general. He died in Limerick, Ireland, on 7 August 1821.
