Other Notes: Gervais-Maximilien-Eugene Durand, (1839-c.1920) established the Maison Durand firm in 1870, producing top quality eighteenth century style furniture. The business triumphed when the firm participated in the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle, winning a silver medal and commendation as master designer and craftsman, likened to the renowned cabinetmakers Henry Dasson (1825-1896) and Alfred-Emmanuel Beurdeley (1847-1919). His first exhibition was so successful that it was said of him "Un ebeniste aussi habile que modeste, qui expose pour la premiere fois les meubles de premier ordre, dont il est a la fois le dessinateur et l'executant; il marche sur la voie tracee par les maitres tel que Beurdeley et Dasson."
In 1890, when Durand's son Frederic-Louis joined the firm, the name was changed to Durand & Fils, and later to F. Durand & Fils refering to Gervais's son Frederic-Louis and grandson Pierre. Frederic took over the business in 1920 after Gervais' death. The firms were known to be located at Rue de la Cerisaie, and Rue Saint-Antoine in Paris.
