Marcus Stone was a man of distinguished and pleasing appearance and manner, a good talker, a clever phrase-maker, and an omniverous reader. Stone's fancy pictures are well-observed and painted, and his characterization of their subjects is excellent, as is his rendering of light, shade and vegetation.
