This low mileage example of the Mercedes-Benz 560SL represents the most desirable version of this sports car because it has the most powerful engine ever fitted to this model and is equipped with every single expensive extra imaginable. The original Becker Grand Prix cassette/radio was the best equipment that German car radio manufacturer's could offer in the 1980s. This is now a desirable collector's item in its own right.

The powerful, 5.6 liter V-8 engine with the Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection develops 231 DIN-HP has proven itself to have an average life expectancy of more than 300,000 miles.

The 560SL was considered the "exotica" version of the SL, and 49,347 examples were built for the American, Australian and Japanese markets. Interestingly, the 560SL was never available on the German home market.

Introduced in 1971, the production of the R107 model covered amazing 18 years until it was discontinued in 1989. This was an exceptionally long production run for a motor car, particularly for a top-of-the-line model. For some years in the early 1980s, the Mercedes SL was the only production convertible on the world market, except the hand-built Rolls Royce Corniche. All R107 SL (Sport Leicht) were built in the Stuttgart-Sindelfingen plant and this sports car was designed by Friedrich Geiger who had also been responsible for the now immortal 300SL Gullwing in the mid-fifties.

As a notable but invisible feature, the R107 has extremely strong windshield pillars (A-posts) that are intended to withstand the crushing forces of a roll-over accident. Because all panels are marked with the chassis number, it is easy to determine whether a particular car has an accident history.

The SL was often seen on TV and was driven by characters in "Dallas" and "Dynasty" series.
