Pair Directoire brass-inlaid mahogany armchairs, stamped Chapuis early 19th century, turned crest over horizontal splat with inlaid brass and ebonized diamond encompassed by stringing upon anthemion medallion flanked by rounded arms above curved seat leading to round tapering legs.

Provenance: Estate of the late Francis D. "Skeeter" McNairy, Savannah, Georgia.

Other Notes: Stamped "CHAPUIS" on outside center of seat rail for Claude Chapuis of Paris (active 1797-1818) or Jean-Joseph Chapuis of Brussels (b. 1765-1864).

  • both chairs with repairs to arm; one rear leg broken and repaired; small areas of brass inlay lifting; other imperfections expected with age.
