Pair George IV fused-plate wine coolers, Matthew Boulton circa 1820, campana form flanked by handles decorated with gadroon rim and rosette-and-palmette band, engraved on both sides with arms of Benyon family of Esmondum, Sussex and crests on rim covers; marked.

Gift from South Carolina Governor, Donald Stuart Russell and wife to present owners.

Other Notes: Donald Stuart Russell served as South Carolina Governor (1963-1965); Senator (1965-1966); and served as president of the University of South Carolina from 1952 to 1957.

  • Rubbing and bleeding to covers. Slightly pressed down on pedestal base, one liner with dent on base edge. Otherwise in good condition.
