Pair Japanese lacquer kaioke (shell boxes) Meiji-Taisho Period (1868-1926) square covered with brass bound chamfered corners and gilt fern decorations on conforming ribbed body raised on brass-bound and decorated stylized hoof legs; all bound with braided rope ending in tassels. H13" and 12" Sq.

Provenance : Estate of Miss Frances Patterson, long-time resident of Japan. Purchased in 1962 in Machida Japan. Ex-collection of Mr. Kenji Fukuda, Nara Japan.
