19th century marked on verso: Wenderoth & Taylor, Philadelphia, No. 43003. (Blemish to bottom right of front) H4" W2 1/2" *Note: Records indicate that Berry G. Benson enlisted as a private in company H, McCreary's, SC infantry September 7, 1861. Became a prisoner of war around May 17, 1864, at which time he was a sargeant and was interned at Elmira, New York, from where he subsequently escaped in October 7, 1864. It is believed that this photograph was taken postwar. Accompanied by copies of these records.
