Other Notes: Natalina "Lina" Cavalieri (1874-1944) was a famous Italian opera singer and actress. Her four marriages were to such notable characters as Russian Prince Alexandre Bariatinsky, Robert Winthrop Chanler, Lucien Muratore, and Paolo d'Arvanni. Cavalieri sang on some of the world's foremost stages, including New York's Metropolitan Opera. She was killed in 1944 during a WWII Allied bombing raid that destroyed her home near Florence, Italy.
Lina's likeness was painted by many notable portrait painters of the day including the full length portrait by Cesare Tallone, now in a private collection. She was known as the "world's most beautiful woman," and in 1955 Gina Lollobrigida portrayed her in the film "The World's Most Beautiful Woman" (also known as Beautiful But Dangerous). In 2004, authors Paul Fryer and Olga Usova wrote the biographica book about her life titled "Lina Cavalieri: The Life of Opera's Greatest Beauty, 1874-1944".
