Provenance: Houston, Texas private collection.

Purchased by Ima Hogg for her collection at Bayou Bend, Houston, Texas, October 1959. Purchased by David Stockwell Inc. of Wilmington, Delaware from the H.G. Haskell Collection.

Other Notes: Described by David Stockwell in his July 1959 advertisement in THE MAGAZINE ANTIQUES as 'the finest Philadelphia Queen Anne 'couch' or daybed known', this piece caught the eye of Ima Hogg for her growing collection at Bayou Bend in Houston, Texas. Correspondence between Stockwell and Miss Hogg's secretary tell that Miss Hogg was 'crazy about it..... as soon as possible after it was 'installed' in her sitting room, she propped herself up on it and had her supper tray served to her on the bed.' Illustrated in several books as an outstanding example of Queen Anne furniture, this daybed stayed in the Bayou Bend collection for nearly forty years. In 1992 it was purchased by the current owners at forementioned auction and has remained in their private collection.
