Description:

Rare Chinese Export mythological subject plate circa 1745
octagonal form painted en grisaille depicting extensive scene of goddess seated holding spear and arrow with lion crouched at her feet, framed by gilt border of fruiting and flowering vines.

Provenance: Purchased from Mildred Mottahedeh in the 1970s.

    Condition:
  • Repaired rim chip and corresponding hairlines at the 10 o'clock position; some wear to gilding and light rubbing to central scene.

    ** All Chinese Export porcelain pieces have been examined under bright light and UV light. All show slight wear consistent with age. Only repairs and restorations, or wear greater than expected will be mentioned in condition reports.
