Description:

Rare Ducommun Girod harmoniphon cylinder music box circa 1875
17 1/2" long and 5 inch diameter multiple tune cylinder and 14-key central organ section, within rosewood case with canted corners cover and sides decorated with musical trophies; on stand of a later date; bearing two labels reading: Ducommun Girod.
box H19 1/2" W35" D17"

Provenance: Columbia, South Carolina private collection.

    Condition:
  • Refinished case with very minor veneer damage and replacements, overall good condition. The organ does play and the bellows is functional; however, the machine runs too slowly to pump enough air for proper sound. Judging by changing cam, it plays 8 tunes, or 16 if it plays 2 tunes per rotation. There is no tune card.
