Rare Edgefield southern stoneware churn with lid, Dave South Carolina, dated May 3, 1862, rich alkaline glaze with pronounced tooled rim flanked by high sculpted handles centered by inscription "LM- May 31-1862 Dave" with cylindrical churn-form body.
H16 1/8" Dia.10 7/8"

Provenance: Savannah, Georgia private collection.

Other Notes: This churn is accompanied with what is most likely one of its original two lids. Churns of the Miles site were created with a dasher lid for churning and a sealed lid for fermentation.

    Condition:
  • 7/8" chip to rim and 13" stable hairline/ crack stretching from rim to body. Otherwise good overall condition with wear consistent with age.
