Description:

Rare Federal inlaid mahogany butler's chest, school of Seymour Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1790
molded rectangular top over conforming case with one long drawer, faced with long pseudo-oval inlay surrounded by sheoak veneer, opening to reveal writing surface and arrangement of pigeonholes and small drawers above cupboard doors opening to reveal three linen slides, all resting on shaped bracket feet.

Other Notes: This lot accompanied with a condition and treatment report from Schuettinger Conservation Services Inc., New Market, Maryland.

    Condition:
  • Degraded finish removed with denatured alcohol and coated with shellac, then waxed. Missing glue blocks were replaced, minor veneer replacement, drawer pulls replaced. Two interior document drawers replaced, feet original. Excellent overall condition.
