Rare Southern Edgefield District stoneware jug, Dave South Carolina, circa 1863, rich alkaline glaze with double ring tooled spout aside thick pulled and applied strap handle terminating in thumb impression attached to ovoid body at upper body, with inscription "LM II March 18 - 1863 Dave."

Provenance: Sold to benefit a Georgia non-profit historic institution
Gift of an Edgefield County, SC family, circa 1960.

    Condition:
  • Good overall condition having no repairs or restoration. base wear consistent with age. Small firing flaws and glaze anomalies as made jug has no chips, cracks, nicks or hairlines to speak of overall wear consistent with age.
