Sanders, Anne English (1889-1985) 'ACACIA JULIBRISSIN' water color and pen on paper signed: lower right paper size: H17.5in W15in *Note: Her great-grandmother was painted by, and studied with, Sir Joshua Reynolds and kept the technique of flower painting in the family. Sanders has shown in Europe and America, is in the Canadian National collection, the collection of the Duchess of Kent, etc. She drew from life in garden and field, drew her compositions in pencil, painted in water color and gouache, often grinding her own ink for the black backgrounds. The fact that the backgrounds were put in last, with a brush with only seven hairs, probably explains the sharp clarity of her flower paintings.
