Semler, Leo Continental School (early 20th century) Circa 1930's miniature paintings of RACE HORSES fitted in a gilt sterling silver cigarette case , front view is a HORSE RACING SCENE WITH MULTIPLE FIGURES, and the reverse is a JOCKEY ON HORSEBACK STANDING IN A FIELDWITH ONLOOKERS front is watercolour; the reverse is ink drawing signed: lower right, Leo Semler H 3.75in W 4.125in *Note: Case passedfrom John Hay, Secretary of State (circa 1900) to grand-daughter JoanWhitney Payson, then passed to John Gaver of Aiken, SC and Saratoga, NY. Mr. Gaver was the horse trainer for the Whitney family. A hand written card from Joan to John is included in his lot.
