Horstmann, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Circa 1840 the pummel is the form of the bust of a female figure; above a mother-of-pearl and brass wire wrapped grip; the palmetto device is cast into the counterguard; retaining its original tassel: Scabbard is marked Horstmann, 425, blade marked WHH Philadelphia. L 35.5in Blade 28.5in * Note: A similar sword is shown on page 11 in "Civil War Relics From South Carolina" by Celeste C. and David L. Topper. This sword is from the Estate of Joseph A. Allison of Bristol Va.
