Southern inlaid mahogany demilune card table attributed to Charleston, SC, circa 1790-1810 semi-circular top unfolds to rest on gateleg, over conforming skirt bisected with tapered legs surmounted with floral paterae and bellflower drops, terminating in spade feet; white pine and ash secondary woods. Charleston: Charleston Museum, 1955. Figure 98. The design, construction and decoration are consistent with tables produced in Charleston during the Neoclassical period. Of particular interest are the floral paterea with white backgrounds utilized in conjunction with the typical single-unit bellflower decoration on each leg which is often found on finer Neoclassical Charleston tables.
